eMISA Admissions

The eMISA program will accommodate students with a variety of undergraduate backgrounds in science and engineering offering a set of courses within the program scope so that all students will have grounding in the fundamental disciplines of information assurance. A minimum of five years of job experience in an IT related field is required.
The eMISA program is designed for information assurance professionals who want to get a better understanding of the technical, business, and policy attributes of this discipline and/or pursue career advancement opportunities in management and strategic leadership positions in information assurance. Applicants are expected to have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or related fields, and at least five years of related work experience.

To apply for the cohort starting in Spring 2010, please download and fill in the pre-application form. Please follow the submission instructions on the form.

Those selected by the initial screening process will be asked to submit a complete application. The following documents will be required to complete the application process.
The essay of at most 1000 words is required explaining why you are considering the executive MISA program and how the program will help you meet your career objectives. In addition, include career progression including time at the manager or director level; technical and quantitative strengths; professional accomplishments of note, including certifications; communication or group interaction skills; accomplishments in community service, international experience and any other factors supporting your application.

Tuition and fees for the executive MISA degree is $60,000 for the entire program. Upon acceptance, we require a $2,500 deposit applicable to the full cost of the program to reserve a seat in the cohort.
Program Costs Include:
- All required course materials, registration and graduation fees
- A lap-top computer with a full array of accessories configured to facilitate learning and collaborative exercises
- International Residency: round-trip airfare, hotel and partial meal costs while abroad
- Meals and parking permits on class days
- Blackboard content management system

Once an applicant is accepted and registered, a Financial Aid counselor certifies enrollment and continues to mentor you through the program. The program staff works closely with Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) to guide you through the process.
Virginia Tech considers the executive MISA a full-time graduate program with the same financial aid benefits available to on-campus students. We recommend that you consider this option early in the application process to maximize your choices in financing the program cost. As a full-time student, you are eligible for a low rate Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) loan up to $20,500 each academic year.
